PUB NEWS
Well, I guess it’s all about the re-openings. I personally have to say what a marvelous job our pubs have done in providing hand sanitisation, distancing signage and many other features to make themselves, their employees and of course, their customers as safe as possible. Interesting to see the different methods of track and trace going on. Hopefully you’re all contributing, and in doing so, trying to prevent a surge in cases locally. I can understand some people’s objections with regards to civil liberties and data protection, but surely if it’s for the common good? Perhaps a discussion for the taproom!
At the time of going to press, all of our pubs are open, with the exception of the following:
The Old Cock and The Manor House – closed due to Covid-19 – both re-opening soon.
Whitakers and Otley Tap House are both undergoing renovation and are due to open soon – so keep an eye out the news on Social Media.
We have no further news on the status of Horse & Farrier (Market Town Taverns), or Rose & Crown (Ei Group) – both of which remain closed unfortunately.
The Bay Horse
After an understandable delay in re-opening, it’s great to see the additions to the rear of the pub in Bay Horse court. Lovely seating area with planters and cushions – well done Dean & Jan!!
Otley Tap House
We had a cheeky glimpse inside the Otley Tap House recently, courtesy of Joe, and what a mess! No, seriously, renovations are well under way. A new toilet arrangement with an access corridor (how did they fit it all in?), new furniture and a revamp of the outside space to accommodate, of course, the Otley Burger Co. truck! It will be a great addition to our wonderful pub scene. Great to see it re-opening and good luck to Joe and the team for the new venture.
The Roebuck
Congratulations are due for all involved up t’hill – The Roebuck has been voted #5 in the best pubs for food in Leeds according to TripAdvisor reviews! What a great achievement and this magnificent pub continues to serve the people of Otley and surrounds admirably!

AND FINALLY…..
I’m always on the lookout for a quirky pub-related story (preferrably as local as possible). So how about this, courtesy of Leeds Live: “The incredible discovery found in forgotten pub hidden beneath Leeds city centre car park”
Nice pint of Ginger Beer anyone?
So that’s it for this month. Our socially distanced monthly Committee meetings are still being held, but we have decided to suspend the “social” aspect until more restrictions are lifted.
Difficult times all round. Enjoy the month as best you can and let’s hope for some sunshine!
Be safe – Be courteous – Be socially distanced – Be tolerant – See you around town!
Very best regards,
Otley Pub Club Committee
