Yes, we’re still here and like most of you I guess, yearning for the day when the hospitality sector is allowed to re-open and we can once again enjoy our wonderful selection of pubs and bars in our lovely town.

PUB QUIZ ANYONE?
Also, there’s our very own take on a pub quiz to entertain you during lockdown! On our website we’ve posted pictures (thanks to our Pub Whisperer and cohorts!) of 22 Otley pub doors – all closed! You mission is to simply name the pubs. No prizes – just a bit of fun. You can do it from your sofa, or why not take a trek as part of your daily exercise and see if you can find them all. Here you go…

And watch out for another even more difficult pub-based quiz in our March Newsletter [no clues yet]. We’re even planning a proper treasure hunt round all the pubs when we’re all allowed to play out later in the year. You’ll actually have to visit all of them then, but there’ll be prizes at the end of it – and it won’t be compulsory to have a drink in every one [although you might want to, after you’ve been locked out for so long!] We reckon the shortest distance you’d have to walk to visit every pub is about 9 Km, so we’ll probably give you a whole month to manage it!

Horse and Farrier – Leasehold up for Sale – no further news folks.
Otley Tavern – Freehold for sale. The Community Right to Bid (formerly, Asset of Community Value or ACV) expired on the 4th January 2021. We don’t “believe” anyone has made a bid, and this leaves the owner to sell the property on the open market notwithstanding the current tenant who has a 6 year lease and fully intends to re-open the pub and Stewie’s Kitchen when restrictions are lifted!

Many, many deserved congratulations to Joe and the team for this very prestigious award from us all here at OPC, plus a very grateful customer base! If you haven’t tried them yet….what have you been doing? They’re awesome!

Our beloved Summercross – we understand the site has been sold, but not officially confirmed. Wouldn’t it be great if the new owners would restore the pub to it’s former glory? Especially with the new huge development taking place east of Otley – I mean, the new residents will need a local won’t they – it’s a long walk into town after all!

LOCAL BREWERY SHOPS – JANUARY 2021
Although we are most concerned about our pubs during yet another lockdown, we mustn’t forget that our local breweries are also suffering as their orders drop alarmingly. We fear that some local pubs might not be able to open again after lockdown and possible further subsequent trading restrictions. But when all pubs are allowed to re-open, we don’t want to lose the wide choice of local brews that are currently available to us here in Yorkshire.
So if you’d like to support your local breweries rather than buy multinational corporate products [even the good ones] from supermarkets, these are the local breweries whose websites say they are currently supplying beer during lockdown. It might be cans or bottles or draft, by post, home delivery or click and collect, so if you’re interested you’ll have to follow the links below for the details. As for our 4 Otley breweries [at the last count], I guess we won’t be seeing Dr. Paul Briscoe’s fine real ales again until the pubs re-open. Shadow Brewing, Chevin Brew Co. and Marlowe Beer Project beers might still appear at our local beer shop, The Curious Hop in Newmarket.
