The Fleece History
The Fleece started out as being called “The Golden Fleece” and by 1861 the word “Golden” had been dropped from its name, thereafter being known as The Fleece.
According to an old document, it had two adjoining properties and outbuildings. One of the adjoining properties eventually became the private living-quarters of the Landlord, and an 1890 map shows a building adjoining the westerly side of the property which has since been demolished. A block of mens’ public toilets were built on the site of this former property but demolished when the recent refurbishment work was carried out to allow for an extension to be built to form part of the pub. The map also shows a garden which led down towards the river and a mooring.
