Photo # | The Pub | Taken By | The Words
1. | The Manor | Eddie Conneely | One of the best pubs in town. Great place to meet new friends!
2. | Junction Inn | Brian Keighley | I have been having a drink at The Junction for many years. They always keep a good selection of ales which are kept well and taste good. The bar staff are friendly efficient and hardworking, most of the customers are also friendly and sociable. Dogs and children are allowed, there is very little bad language used in there and trouble causers are very seldom seen and if there is any trouble it is soon dealt with. On Tuesdays and Saturdays there is live music, some very good bands play there and it’s free. On cycle race night it’s a good place to watch the riders wizz by while sampling a pint of well pulled ale. I think that just about says it all, a great pub.
3. | Whitakers | Monica Mcknight | Our grandson Julian….trying to pull a sneaky pint
4. | Old Cock | Nigel Halton | Staff past and present with owners Lee and Linda. They always seem pleased to accept a CAMRA award. This was taken in July 2019.
5. | Roebuck | David Baron | The Spite (as we still call it) was the first pub we visited in Otley, on the day we moved in twenty-odd years ago. From the patio, it has the best view of any pub in the town (even better than the Royalty, I would say!)
6. | Masons Arms | Phil Greaves | Sadly, a lost pub, but with The Fleece just over the road this shows that the Westgate end of town still has much to offer. Electric diaphragm pumps in The Masons, while The Fleece always had handpumps (much preferred). Long before the advent of Pubcos, Otley was then considered a ‘Tetley Town’, though there were Bass, Websters and Whitbread houses also to be found. We may have slightly fewer pubs now, but the variety and choice of beer has improved infinitely. (photo dates from May 1981)
7. | Horse & Farrier | Debra Kerr | Right to Left – Debs, John Bramhall, Dean Bagnall & Tom Winder We just love the H&F as a music venue and this was our band’s (Ullalele) first gig post-Covid
8. | Old Cock | Adele Hainsworth | The Owners and The Team behind the success of this years CAMRA Pub of The Year.
9. | Old Cock | Vicky Parkinson | My beautiful boy Barney is in the right. He used to drag me into The Cock whenever we walked past. Barney sadly passed away in my arms 4 years old 12 days after this photo. Emil is his stepbrother on the left. One of my friends said ‘I’d rather be the dog in front’ 😂 it just shows how pubs are for people and our lovely furry baby’s (sic)
10. | White Swan | Julie Carrack | Wee Tom, being told to wait before devouring a biscuit bone treat.
11. | Horse & Farrier | David Harper | Here’s one from Sunday 25 June. Cheers!
12. | Bowling Green | Kate Troitskaya | It’s a rare view to see The Bowling Green with no customers outside on a bright sunny day. It is even more rare to see the flakes of snow covering the tables with white tablecloths, making everything a bit more festive. There is something moving about this picture, making one think of how quickly time passes and bringing memories. Original shot taken in March 2022 by Kate, Otley
13. | Whitakers | Andy Mcknight | Spider-Man’s visit after Covid … re-opening pub
14. | North Bar Social | Cate Perman | A random stout drinker The photo shows the excitement of being given 2 cans of yummy beer
15. | Black Bull | Ben Cooper | As the chef at the black bull, I take great pride in our food. This is one of our specialty’s! (sic) A HOMEMADE giant Yorkshire pudding stuffed with triple cooked chips and slow cooked beef.
16. | Curious Hop | Rachel Campey | Impromptu live music amongst friends
17. | Curious Hop | Gill Brook | Photo taken back in late December 2019 in the Curious Hop. Just popped in for a quick pre-Christmas drink, probably after some last-minute shopping. It captures a quiet moment at a frantic time of year.
18. | North Bar Social | Jesse Y | This is a photo of me the magnificent Gwynfor, resplendent in victory having bested the pretender Egg in a mortal duel of dog boxing; photograph credit to my human slave who goes by the name of Jesse. As a result of my victory, I received the freedom of North Bar Social, and may mount the furniture as and when it pleases me. It is only right and proper that my portrait hang on their hallowed walls.
19. | North Bar Social | Vicky Carruthers | This photo was taken at the Wayzgoose Weave during the Otley Walking Festival. It was an evening of music, dancing and laughter in our wonderful town.
20. | Curious Hop | Simon Carey | Two Otley revellers in fancy dress 15th April 2023
21. | North Bar Social | James Dobson | Introducing my best man from London to Yorkshire beer before my wedding day where we served north brewery cans as wedding favours
22. | Old Cock | Gill Speight | This is Linda receiving the CAMRA Pub of The Year award – well deserved.
23. | Roebuck | Birthday lunch/drinks – you know how much you love a selfie Mum – NOT!!
24. | Black Horse | Bob McLaughlin | Malcolm singing one of his traditional sea shanties (Fishermen’s Friends are mere amateurs compared to Malcolm) at Otley Folk Club upstairs at the Black Horse on Wednesday 28thJune. Good beer, good enthusiastic staff, good music and a good time had by all. Any winnings will be donated to Folk Club.
25. | Whitakers | Mike Tebb | My wife, showing the way for Otley Slimming World.
26. | Black Horse | Lynn Stinson | Bernie and Cassie in the Black Horse Courtyard. Dog-friendly, as well as a social and community hub for Otley. Oh and great beer and staff too!
27. | Royalty | Maisie Green | Taken at surprise view, during sunset. My favourite thing to do is to walk up The Chevin and snap a few pictures. The Royalty is in the perfect spot and looks so beautiful during sunset.
28. | Junction | Steve Holmes | Just the old swing sign. Fav pub 🙂
29. | Rose & Crown | Sarah Hargrave | This is my older nephew teaching my younger nephew how down a pint (of cordial lol) Rose & Crown is my favourite pub because the whole building is perfect and full of character!!! Its authentic and rustic and the staff are absolute treasures.
30. | Fleece | Gerry Ottley | A lovely pub for meeting friends on a sunny afternoon in the best beer garden in town. It’s because it shows not only two of my special friends from the Otley Pub Club, but plus three generations of the Ottley’s!
31. | Rose & Crown | Holly Pennington | It’s my birthday – I’ll try if I want to – Edie, aged 6! It was a special moment because Edie asked my brother to teach her how to play chess for her birthday and by the end it was her grandma, grandad and great grandad all helping her win!
32. | Black Horse | Norma Parkinson | Dogs love Otley’s pubs – and Otley’s pubs love dogs! |
