OTLEY TO CELEBRATE THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TOWN’S CARNIVAL

OTLEY TO CELEBRATE THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TOWN’S CARNIVAL

Following the largest and best parade for many years in supporting the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee the Otley Carnival has another cause to celebrate in 2013 as this will be the 30th anniversary of the first Otley Carnival in 1983. The Carnival Committee are hoping that all those who entered the parade in June will be participating again next year plus many more who are keen to celebrate 30 years of this special annual event in Otley. Otley Pub Club will again be participating and want everyone to join in the fun.

CARNIVAL FUNDS FOR LOCAL ORGANISATIONS
There has never been any admission or participation charges for Otley Carnival and funds have always been raised by the committee members and participating organisations together with well supported collections on the day. This has resulted in a total of £72,000 being handed over to many local organisations during the 30 years.

As we are hoping for a bumper year in 2013 – including a fine warm Saturday (15 June) – the Committee are now seeking applications from local groups who can be seen to benefit the local community and would be prepared to help the Committee with their fund raising activities.

Beneficiary application forms are available from the Otley Library or by contacting Ann Steval on 01943-466995 or email steval@btinternet.com. The closing date for applications is the 13th October.

For further information contact Ann Steval as above or Geoff Wright on 01943-465179

Lets make this 30th Carnival year the biggest ever and get your entry forms in to participate and spread the news to friends and family to attend this magnificent event.

The Carnival Committee have agreed to appoint the following two local organisations as beneficiaries for the special 2013 Carnival:

OTLEY PARISH SCOUT AND GUIDE ASSOCIATION
The Parish Scouts and Guides are based in their headquarters on Burras lane which accommodates over 150 children ranging from 6 to 18 years very week. The building is also used by several other community groups and is in use throughout the week.
Unfortunately it has recently been discovered that the roof is rotten and is in need of urgent replacement. The group have already started fund raising and is looking to the Carnival to help them towards achieving their target of a new roof.

This group was set up two years ago to act as a feeder group for the Otley Brass Band and has since gone from strength to strength with over 60 people attending rehearsals.
The group rehearses at the Courthouse with members ranging from 8 years to a lot older. The majority of members are children and amongst many projects the group are planning a residential weekend away at Howarth.
This trip will include staying at the youth hostel and running workshops with some prestigious brass players as well as fun and games. The group are seeking funds towards the cost of this trip in addition to replenishing band funds and even planning a return trip to Howarth in 2014.

The Carnival Committee welcomes the support of the beneficiaries who provide additional people to help with the development of the Carnival, assistance on the day, as well as helpers including children, to play a part in the many fund raising activities throughout the year.

This starts with the Otley Carnival stall at the Victorian Fayre on Sunday 9th December.
