Otley Pub Club secure commitment that Black Horse will be open for Tour de France‏

Otley Pub Club is delighted to learn that the Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Inns’, Simon Townsend, has confirmed that the company is committed to getting the Black Horse Hotel in Otley reopened before the Tour de France races through the town.

The news comes as a result of Otley Pub Club raising the issue by writing to Enterprise, urging them to reopen the pub, which has been closed since December. Otley Pub Club wrote to Simon Townsend on 17th February urging that Enterprise ensure the pub was open for the once-in-a-lifetime event of the Tour de France passing through the town and right past the Black Horse.

The Black Horse Hotel, a local landmark, has recently been closed and Otley Pub Club, as well as local MP Greg Mulholland, were extremely disappointed that it might be closed when the Tour de France goes past in July.

Commenting Andy FitzGerald, Chairman of Otley Pub Club, said:

“We welcome the undertaking from Enterprise Inns to strive to have the Black Horse open for both the cycle races and the Tour de France.

“We agree that the Black Horse is ideally sited and should be opened again as soon as possible. It is pleasing to note that Enterprise Inns acknowledge the importance of the Black Horse to Otley and I hope they can either reopen it as soon as possible or sell it to a company that can open it and run it successfully.”

Commenting Greg said:

“It is good that Enterprise Inns have now publicly pledged to have the Black Horse Hotel, which is on the Tour de France route, open for this historic event.

“Congratulations to Otley Pub Club for securing this clear commitment from Mr Townsend and it is now on Enterprise Inns to ensure that this happens.

“As Otley’s town centre hotel and landmark building, the Black Horse must be reopened and I am sure it will be fully booked. The Tour de France is a once-in-a-lifetime event for Otley, Pool-in-Wharfedale, Arthington and all the places along the route and the many visitors and cycling fans will receive a warm Yorkshire welcome to this part of Wharfedale.”
