OK, First a big apology from me this month! Because my family and I have been tripping round the world recently, it’s been impossible for me to undertake my usual tour round all the pubs of Otley, to find out what they have to offer over the next few weeks. So, instead of that, I’m just going to point you in the general direction of the Otley Pub Club website, and the host of information that we hold on there about all our wonderful pubs!

Just go to http://www.otleypubclub.co.uk/otley-pubs-present and click on any of the pubs down the right-hand side, to find out what they have to offer all year round. With the Easter weekend fast approaching, and the weather still being bright and sunny [at the time of writing, at least!] who needs any extra excuse to go and sit outside [or inside] an Otley pub?

I’ll be thinking of you enjoying yourselves over here while I’m in Derry-Londonderry, and I’ll be looking forward to coming back to send out the details of our next Pub Club meeting in a couple of weeks.

There are three things you might be interested in this month, starting with a different take on CAMRA’s community pubs’ month, with 38% of people apparently not visiting their local pubs – http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/372494/Two-out-of-five-people-don-t-go-to-local-boozers-say-Camra

Then there’s this interesting interpretation of that statistic, comparing it with what happened to church congregations! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink/pubs/10737180/We-love-pubs-and-churches-but-dont-want-to-use-them.html

And finally there’s this article from The Guardian, telling us what lots of us already knew – that the life of a landlord is not always a happy one – With the wonderful quote “And it’s a law of pub nature that pub toilets only get blocked on a Friday or Saturday night when you can’t get a plumber. Then it’s a bin bag up to your shoulder, fisting the toilet bowl.” Bleagh!

And just one last bit of news from when I visited Y14 – Welcome To Yorkshire’s annual promotional event at the Harrogate International Centre. They will be repeating their 2013 competition to find the ‘favourite local’ in Yorkshire. If you want to vote for your pub, it’s dead easy – just fill in the form here:

THE BRIDGE – Is now closed. And seems to have been purchased for conversion into private domestic residential accommodation. No planning application entered yet for change of use as far as I can see though.

THE ROYALTY – Now settled into full operational mode, with different real ales changing regularly, and a new deal having been struck with Wharfedale from Ilkley.

‘DIRT WHEELS’ shop @ 66 Boroughgate – From the Leeds City Council Planning website, it looks as though the application to open a bar here might have been approved!

THE BLACK HORSE – We tried to get a representative from Enterprise along to our next committee meeting without success. July is getting very close, so we’ll still be fighting for a TdF opening!
