WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Otley Pub Club has launched a fun survey to help the town celebrate Yorkshire Day, both this year AND next. We’re going to ‘rename’ all the pubs again, like we did with the highly successful French names when the Tour de France came through the town in 2014. This time each pub will be named after a different Yorkshire celebrity, and we want everyone to help us decide who those celebrities will be.
The pubs won’t actually be renamed until Yorkshire Day 2018, but there will be an event on the 1st of August this year to kick off the whole project. There are 21 pubs in town, and when the 21 celebrity names have been chosen, there will be an FA Cup-style draw. 21 celebrity names in one bowl, 21 pub names in the other, and all the excitement of seeing whose name will be outside your local on Yorkshire Day next year. Now, you might not think that‘s all that exciting – but it’s only the start of the ambitious project. Over the following 12 months we’ll be trying to contact each of those 21 celebrities to invite them to come to ‘their’ pub, and celebrate Yorkshire Day in the best possible way – with a Yorkshire pint in a Yorkshire pub.
So if you fancy seeing Vic Reeves having a Big Night Out at The Otley Tavern; Alan Titchmarsh enjoying the garden at The Fleece; or Lizzie Deignan racing up to The Roebuck, just click on the link below and vote for your favourites. Of course if some of the A-list celebrities are your top choices, their global filming or performance commitments might make it difficult for them to turn up on the day. If they can’t make it, we’ll be asking that they at least send an item of memorabilia or a signed photograph, together with a message to the town and to the individual pub, so it can be displayed behind the bar for the next 12 months. Out of 21 names, we’re hopeful that at least some will be available, and willing to come to town and thank you all in person for nominating them!
The more people who vote, the more representative the final choice will be, so share the link with everyone in town! Unfortunately the survey can only be completed online, but there is a prize for the person whose votes agree with the final results. If more than one person gets it right, there’ll be a draw for the winner. We’ll let you know what the prize is later!
