Children in Need Otley ‘Pub Quiz Crawl’ a big success as Falcon Club take the crown!
Otley pubs hosted a special Children in Need ‘pub quiz crawl’, with BBC Radio Leeds listeners and teams from Otley organisations and Otley’s pubs and clubs taking part. The quiz took place in four of Otley’s famous pubs – the Horse and Farrier, the Black Horse, the Black Bull and the Otley Tavern with other pubs entering teams and the event raised £500 for Children in Need.
The Pub Quiz Crawl was organised by BBC Radio Leeds and hosted by Richard Stead, who presents the Richard Stead Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Leeds, weekdays 6-9am and it was the radio station’s biggest pub quiz ever! The Otley Bellman, Terry Ford, led all the teams from pub to pub until the exciting conclusion when the winners were announced in the Otley Tavern.
Overall winners of the Pub Quiz Crawl were the brainy Falcon Club who received the special trophy from Richard Stead. Not far behind, Whitakers won the inaugural Mulholland Cup competition, supplied by Otley Pub Club, and have been crowned ‘Otley’s cleverest pub’, a title that they will need to defend next year.
Richard Stead, BBC Leeds presenter, who hosted the event commented
“It was great to see so many people turn out for the BBC Radio Leeds Pub Quiz Crawl. Thanks to the people and pubs of Otley for giving us such a warm welcome. We were joined by listeners from across West Yorkshire and all had a fantastic evening – and raised money for a great cause in the process.”
Matt Hardin, Chair of Otley Pub Club commented:
“The Children in Need ‘Pub Quiz Crawl was great fun, in the spirit of all good pub quizzes and Otley Pub Club are delighted that Otley was chosen as the host town! Richard Stead was an excellent host and Otley’s Bellman, Terry Ford, did a great job leading the team’s around from pub to pub, luckily he has a remarkably loud voice!
“It was excellent to see so many people supporting the event in four busy Otley pubs, well done & thanks BBC Radio Leeds and congratulations to the Falcon Club as overall champions & to Whitaker’s as inaugural winners of the Mulholland Cup for ‘Otley’s cleverest pub’. Let’s do it again next year!”
John Allen, a member of the victorious Falcon Club team said:
“Thank you to BBC Radio Leeds and Otley Pub for last Friday Evenings Pub Quiz Crawl which we at The Falcon Club were pleased to participate in. It was a really enjoyable evening spread as it was over the 4 Otley pubs and Raymond, Matthew, Jane and I were delighted to be the overall winners.
Of course the real winner was Children in Need and I am pleased we were able to help to raise money for such an excellent cause, whilst at the same time, enjoying such a pleasant night amongst such friendly people. Hopefully we will be able to defend our Trophy next year with The Falcon Club as one of the host venues!”
